Janice "Jan" Tacheny, age 76, of Litchfield died on Monday, February 25, 2013 at Ecumen of Litchfield. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, March 1st, with a parish prayer service at 8:00 PM at the Church of St. Philip. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Janice Betty (Hanson) Tacheny was born July 28, 1936 in Lake Lillian Township to Bert and Betty (Wicklund) Hanson. She lived in Lake Lillian until the age of 9 when the moved to Atwater. While in school she worked at the telephone office as an operator. She graduated from Atwater High School in 1954. She moved to Litchfield and was a secretary for PT Nelson at the Litchfield Woolen Mills. She married Vic Tacheny on August 4th 1956 at Church of Our Lady in Manannah. They made their home in Litchfield. Jan worked with Vic for a number of years for the Mayflower Moving Company and Oak Grove Dairy. During that time she did some day care at her home. Through the years several children were cared for by Jan and some stayed for weeks. There was always room in the house if someone needed it and always room at the table for a meal. She went to work at the Litchfield Clinic where she worked for 34 years, retiring in 1999 as the clinic manager. After retirement she spent time doing ceramics and reading. She enjoyed dressing up and playing Halloween jokes on family and friends. She became an adopted grandmother to several children through out the years. Jan was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December of 2010. Even during her illness and treatment, she still was looking out for Vic. On June 24, 2011, Vic passed away. Vic and Jan celebrated 54 years of marriage.
Janice is survived by her daughters, Pam (Charles) Johnson of Litchfield, Paula (James) Hill of DeForest, Wisconsin, Pat Tacheny of Litchfield and Rick (Melissa) Beecroft of Litchfield, grandchildren Jairod and Jon Hill, Chelcie, Spencer, Wyatt, and Maddie Beecroft, sisters Bonnie Hanson of Litchfield, and Shari Felleson of Henry TN, nephew Phil (Michele) Beecroft of Duluth MN, niece Beret (Mike) Ilko and children Lizzy, Mickey, and Charlie of Henry, TN, aunts Lorna Hanson of Atwater, Phyllis Wicklund of Thief River Falls and Joan Wicklund of Spicer, godchildren Kate Najera, Jason Zins, Rick Beecroft, Monique Berg, many Hanson and Wicklund cousins. She is also survived by in-laws Jim and Joann Tacheny of Elk River, Carole and Ray Mueller of Plymouth, MI, Joe and Ann Tacheny of Litchfield, Dorothy Tacheny of Litchfield, Darlene Vick of Litchfield and many nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband Vic, brother-in-law Gerard, brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert, Sylvia, and Marion Tacheny, Jeanne and Leo Granlund, Stan Tacheny, Ralph Tacheny, Gene and Vera Staunton, and Smokey Vick.
