Elizabeth “Betsy” M. Holmquist, age 75, of Litchfield, MN, died on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at the Meeker Manor in Litchfield, MN. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City, MN with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held in the First Lutheran Cemetery, Grove City, MN.
Elizabeth “Betsy” Margit Holmquist, the daughter of Rev. Knute Alvar and Hester (Parker) Persson was born in Fitchburg, MA on August 15, 1942. Betsy moved from the East Coast to Grove City in 1958. She graduated from Grove City High School in 1960 and continued her education at the Bethesda Hospital x-ray tech program. She was united in marriage to Willard Holmquist on December 9, 1961 in First Lutheran Church in Grove City, MN. She operated The Balcony store above the Grove City Hardware Store and later she was a pharmacy technician for a few years in Litchfield. Betsy was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and volunteered her time for many Grove City community events, including the Grove City August Fest and as an election judge. She enjoyed music, reading, art, going to auctions, purchasing antiques, refinishing furniture, and spending time on her computer and with her grandchildren.
Betsy is survived by her children Susan (Terry) Dvorak of Litchfield, MN and Jennifer (Jeff) Hurd of Sartell, MN; 4 grandchildren; Drew Dvorak, Michael (Kim) Dvorak, Kevin Hurd, Laura (Aaron) Voth, 3 great grandchildren; Jayden Dvorak, Evelyn Dvorak, and Lucille Dvorak. She is also survived by siblings; brother David Persson of South Hampton, NY and sisters Diane Persson of Medford, WI and Carolyn Kleifgen of Medford, WI.
She was preceded in death by her husband Willard Holmquist; parents Rev. K. Alvar and Hester Persson.
