James E. Fuchs, 79 of Watkins, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at the St. Cloud Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 11, 2019 at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins. Fr. Aaron Nett will officiate. Interment will be in the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Friday, all at the Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins.
James “Jim” Fuchs was born on January 15, 1940 in Watkins. He was the son of Aloys and Aurelia (Ophoven) Fuchs. On September 7, 1964, Jim was united in marriage to Carol Schreiner. Jim served in the U.S. Army and in the National Guard. He was employed as a cashier for Glenwood Engelwood Water Co. and worked in Public Finance in Minneapolis, Moorehead and Milwaukee. Jim returned to Watkins and became co-owner of F&F Implement Service. He also had a small engine repair shop. Following his retirement, Jim drove school bus for Dockendorf Bus Service. Jim was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Catholic United Financial and was active with the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was also a member of the Watkins Lions Club, Watkins Sportsmen’s Club and Watkins Chamber of Commerce. Jim served as a City Council member for 8 years and was a past commander of the Watkins Legion Post #453. Jim also served on the Watkins Rescue Squad. His hobbies included playing cards, fishing, deer hunting, filming family movies with the 8mm and motorcycling.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Michele (Al) Hanson of Hamel and Theresa Judge of Crystal; grandchildren, Evan (Jessica), Jerica, Chloe and Sean; great grandson, Greyson; brothers and sisters, Richard (Carol) Fuchs of Watkins, Mary Ann (Lawrence) Flashenriem of Watkins, Marjorie (Tom) Simmons of Lindstrom, Allen (Cheryl) Fuchs of Grand Forks, ND; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol; brother, Michael in infancy.
