Alcuin ""Hoopie"" Huberty

Alcuin John ""Hoopie"" Huberty 82 of Watkins passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016 at the St. Cloud VAMC. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins. Fr. Aaron Nett, Fr. Ron Huberty and Fr. Tony Hesse will concelebrate. Music will be by Kathy Pauls. Pallbearers will be Chad Huberty, Matthew Huberty, Tyler Huberty, Travis Huberty, Josiah Herfurth and Lewie Kaufman. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins. Watkins Senior Citizens will pray the rosary at 4:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home followed by Watkins Legion Post 453 prayers at 6:30 p.m. and parish prayers at 7:00 p.m. Alcuin ""Hoopie"" Huberty was born on July 27, 1934 at home on the farm in Watkins to Leo and Mathilda (Schreifels) Huberty. He served in the U.S. Army in Kreilsheim, Germany from 1957 to 1959. He worked for a year at the Watkins Creamery, then worked for 54 years at Ertl Hardware in Watkins. On April 26, 1966, Hoopie was united in marriage to Carol Rothstein at St. Peter Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Hoopie was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins and served as an usher for over 25 years. He was 50 year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and served as their Secretary-Treasurer for 32 years. He also was a bingo worker for many years. Hoopie was also a long time member of the Watkins American Legion Post 453 and a member of the Watkins Senior Citizens. Hoopie always had a ready smile, was a hard worker and a very gentle and kind person. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren greatly. He also enjoyed playing cards and playing the accordion. Survivors include his wife, Carol Huberty of Watkins; son, Thomas (Susan) Huberty of Lakewood, IL; daughter, Jodi Herfurth of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Dr. Matthew Huberty of Chicago, IL, Tyler Huberty of Sunnyvale, CA; Megan Huberty of Pittsburgh, PA; Marissa Huberty, Travis Huberty and Serena Huberty, all of Lakewood, IL, Josiah Herfurth of Phoenix, AZ; brothers and sisters, Ralph (Arlene) Huberty of Watkins, Dolores (Jerry) Linn of Paynesville, Gerald (Bernadette) Huberty of Graceville, Roman (Marlene) Huberty, Leon Huberty, Mary Ann (Richard) Hesse, all of Watkins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Mathilda Huberty and sister-in-law, Annie Huberty.
