Becky A. Serie, age 62 of St. Joseph, MN, passed away January 12, 2022. A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 23, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins, MN. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Becky Arlene (Wilmes) Serie was born March 2, 1959, in Bemidji, MN. She was adopted at the age of six months by her parents, Merl and Arlene (Zeman) Wilmes. She attended Russell Elementary School in Russell, MN until 4th grade and then she attended Tyler Public School, graduating in 1977. During these years, Becky was honored by winning the Junior Miss Talent Award in the Aebleskiver Pageant in 1976 and was crowned Dairy Princess of Lyon County in 1976. Becky married Steven Ray Serie on July 14, 1978, at St. Dionysius Catholic Church in Tyler, MN. They lived in various communities throughout the United States as well as three years in Germany until their marriage was dissolved in 1998. During these years, Becky worked at a variety of jobs. In 2006, Becky earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work from Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, MN, earning scholarships and academic recognition. Becky enjoyed being the leading lady of several musicals and plays in community theaters. She was an active soloist and choir member at various church congregations throughout the country and Germany. She was a member of the Southwest Minnesota State University’s Social Work Club and Nontraditional Student Organization. She enjoyed playing piano, guitar, singing, drawing, painting, crafts, walking, swimming, bowling, and fishing. She was actively involved in Living Word Church in Marshall while living in that area. She loved a good book and looked forward to going out, especially if the trip involved eating with her family at a buffet. Her beloved cat Bella was a great companion to her. Becky is survived by her son Beau (April) Serie of Springfield, MN; two grandchildren Leon and Levi; her brother Brad (Peggy) Wilmes of Tyler, MN; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Rita Schrum, and her daughter Bridget Rose Serie. A special Thank You to Serenity of 7th in St. Joseph, MN, for providing wonderful care to Becky.
