Dorothy M. Brixius

Dorothy M. Brixius, age 96 of Watkins, MN died on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Garden View Assisted Living in Watkins, MN. A Funeral Mass and Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Church of St. Anthony in Watkins, MN. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be held at St. Anthony Cemetery, Watkins, MN. The mass will be live-streamed at www.ertlfuneral.com. All are welcome. The family respectfully requests that masks be worn throughout the services. Dorothy Brixius was born April 5, 1925, to Joseph and Anna Hennen of rural Richmond, MN. She and her family moved to Paynesville in 1939. Upon graduating from Paynesville High School, she worked for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company from 1944 to 1953. On November 12, 1953, she married Raymond (Bud) Brixius at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville MN. For 43 years, they owned and operated Brixius Market in Watkins MN. In her last days, she expressed that she had a great life, full of love, laughter, and kindness from the people of Watkins and the surrounding area. Her family, her friends, her city, and her church enriched her life. Her children wish to express their appreciation for all the friends, acquaintances and family who have contributed laughter and kindness to her in her lifetime. We also want to express our gratitude to the staff at Garden View Assisted Living and the hospice staff of St. Croix Hospice for their professional care and the compassion and kindness they provided to both Dorothy and her family. She was truly a member of the greatest generation. As Dorothy would often say, “Everyone deserves kindness.” Dorothy is survived by her children: Paula (Mike) Searle, Farr West, UT, Alan (Linda) Brixius, Maple Grove, MN, Carla (Jeff) Asfeld, Kimball, MN, Lisa Brixius, Sartell, MN, and Mary Brixius (Diane Bauer), Woodbury, MN; grandchildren: Eric Regan, Mike (Julie) Brixius, Jack Brixius, Laura Brixius, Joe (Olivia) Asfeld, Sara Asfeld (Alex Kelton), and Katelyn Asfeld; great-grandson Henry Asfeld; and sisters: Alice Scheierl and Catherine (Katie) Kramer. She was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Anna Hennen; husband Raymond; sisters: Ida Schreifels, Rose Goble, and Marguerite Flanders; and brothers: Oswald Hennen, Richard Hennen, and an infant brother.
