Alicia Cano de Espejel, a radiant soul who graced this world for 96 beautiful years, peacefully left us on April 13, 2026. Her life was a testament to resilience, love, and unwavering strength.
A Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Born in the humble town of Cusihuiriachi, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Eleuterio Torres Flores and Maria Cano Gutierrez. Alicia's roots were grounded in humility and perseverance, shaped by her mother, Maria. Her heart found its true calling when she married Luis Espejel-Diaz on August 2, 1955, in Chihuahua, a union that blossomed into a loving family of seven children, each a reflection of her boundless love and dedication.
In 1989, with brave hope and boundless courage, Alicia made the daring journey from her homeland to Los Angeles, California, and later embraced Minnesota in 2008, where she continued to inspire all who knew her until her final days. Her life was a testament to resilience, rising above humble beginnings with a spirit that never wavered.
Alicia's greatest joy was being with her family, cherishing every moment with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose lives she touched with her warmth and love. She found happiness in crafting, reading, and singing her favorite tangos, her voice a beautiful echo of her vibrant spirit.
Alicia is survived by her children: Luis Ruben Espejel-Cano of Mexico CDMX, Luis Felipe Espejel Cano of Chihuahua, Mexico, Patricia Espejel de Lopez of Litchfield, MN, Roberto Espejel Cano of Litchfield, MN, Blanca Alicia Espejel Cano of St. Cloud, MN, Fernando Espejel Cano of Glendale, AZ, and Maria del Pilar Espejel Cano of Mexico City, Mexico; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eleuterio and Maria; her brothers Pedro and Ruben Varela Cano; sister Maria Luisa Varela Cano; son-in-law Arturo Lopez; and her beloved husband, Luis.
Though she has departed from this world, her spirit remains alive in the hearts of all she loved-her nurturing love, her unwavering resilience, and her beautiful soul will forever inspire us.
