Arlene L. Mortenson

Arlene L. Mortenson, age 86 of Litchfield, MN passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Bethany Assisted Living in Litchfield. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the First Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield, MN. Arlene Lavonne Mortenson, the daughter of Arthur and Gladys (Emerson) Laffen, was born on May 22, 1930 in Hutchinson, MN. She was baptized on October 5, 1930 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hector, MN and was confirmed on May 7, 1944 at Peace Lutheran Church in Cosmos, MN. She graduated from Litchfield High School on May 28, 1948. Arlene was united in marriage to Stanley Mortenson on January 7, 1949 in Brookfield Township, MN. After working for several years as a caregiver, Arlene continued her education, taking LPN courses in Willmar, and become a licensed practical nurse. While living in Cosmos, she was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, where she helped with Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the Cosmos American Legion Auxiliary and a lifetime member of the Litchfield V.F.W. Auxiliary. Arlene was a Cub Scout Den Mother and a leader in the Brownies and Girl Scouts. She enjoyed cooking, traveling to Arizona in the winter, and attending Stan's Navy Reunions for 19 years. She is survived by her husband Stanley Mortenson of Litchfield, MN; children Steven (Norma) Mortenson of Sherrills Ford, NC and Connie Rae (Wayne) Weis of Stoughton, WI; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brother Gary Laffen of Atwater, MN; and a sister Sandra Laffen.
