Bernell Roger Buck

Bernell R. Buck, age 83, of Litchfield died on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at the Ecumen Emanuel Home in Litchfield. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 27, 2016, at the Peace Lutheran Church in Cosmos. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 26th at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery on Friday at 1:30 PM with military honors by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Bernell Roger Buck, the son of Herbert and Lillian (Anderson) Buck, was born on April 29, 1933, in Cosmos Township, MN. He grew up in the Cosmos area and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1951. Following school he went to work for Berghius Company working on a road construction crew. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953 and served two years. He returned to Minnesota after his service and continued working road construction for Berghius and Minnerath Construction Company. He was involved with the construction of Highway 7 and other highway projects in Minnesota. On October 17, 1959, he was united in marriage to Shirley Oestreich at the St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Lake Lillian. They lived in Cosmos in a house that he constructed. They moved to Litchfield in 1967 and he worked construction until he retired in 2000. He was a member of the American Legion and construction union. Bernell enjoyed hunting fishing and gardening and passed this enjoyment to his son. He loved spending time visiting with family and friends, music and dancing. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Buck of Litchfield; grandchildren, Nicole (and Darren) Leland and Michael (and Samantha) Buck; great grandchildren, Hannah and Mason Leland and Brynna Buck. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Todd Buck and sister Cora Hedtke and infant sister Virgie.
