Carol June Lundstrom, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, educator, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2025, at the age of 68.
Carol was born and raised in the Minneapolis area and remained a proud Minnesotan throughout her life, especially on Viking Game Days. She married the love of her life, Tim Lundstrom, and together they enjoyed a life rooted in love, laughter, adventure, and, most recently, ping pong. Carol was a devoted and nurturing mother to her sons, Chris (Tara) and Tom (Ashley), and a playful, adventurous grandmother to her grandchildren: Lily, Calvin, Isaac, Arya, and Solomon, who were the light of her life. She was a supportive and loving friend to her mother Dorothy, and sisters, Susan, Mary, and Lori.
For over 30 years, Carol poured her heart into running a home daycare in Brooklyn Park and then in Saint Michael, where she touched the lives of hundreds of children and their families. Her generous spirit, adventurous nature, and warm smile made her daycare a second home for many. Carol believed in the power of kindness and learning through play, creating a safe and loving environment where every child could grow and thrive.
Carol’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She and Tim enjoyed traveling, photography, discovering new places, and creating lifelong memories. A passionate gardener, Carol, with the help of Tim, cultivated vibrant flower beds and a bountiful vegetable garden. They volunteered at Anderson Gardens in Litchfield, Minnesota, where they created breathtaking flower beds to warm the hearts of countless visitors. In the fall, Carol grew prize-winning pumpkins for her grandchildren’s annual pumpkin rolling and hammering contests, delighting all who took part, including the deer who grazed afterwards.
Carol’s adventurous spirit and deep love for the outdoors were an enduring inspiration to all who knew her. She introduced her three sisters to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, sparking a shared passion for numerous lifetime adventures that involved canoeing, kayaking, and camping. Carol found joy and peace in kayaking and photography, often combining the two on her many wilderness getaways.
One memorable adventure came during a late-season paddle, when she asked her friend, Mary, “Have you ever kayaked on a freezing lake?” That particular journey involved breaking through a thin layer of ice with their paddles just to keep moving forward. In a dramatic twist, the ice froze solid around their kayaks, stranding them in the middle of the lake and necessitating rescue from a nearby motorboat. Carol’s curious, playful spirit will live on in the stories and landscapes she loved so dearly.
Carol’s radiant smile and caring heart left an indelible mark on everyone she met. She was always eager to share her passions with others, as well as the bounty of her growing garden. We are eternally grateful to Carol as our gardens are filled with her flowers and our hearts filled with joyful memories. Her legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to all those around her lives on through the countless lives she enriched.
Carol is survived by her husband, Tim Lundstrom; sons Chris Wolff (Tara) and Tom Wolff (Ashley); grandchildren, Lily, Calvin, Isaac, Arya, and Solomon; mother Dorothy Stalnaker; sisters Susan Bronson (Doug) (Mary Stalnaker (Laddie) Lori Haataja (Doug); and numerous dear nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Dunn Stalnaker.
