Charles Duane Peterson

Charles D. Peterson age 82, of Litchfield, MN, died on Monday, February 8, 2016 at Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Lighthouse Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, February 11th at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Charles Duane Peterson, the son of Charlie and Helen (Fisher) Peterson, was born on April 2, 1933, in Litchfield. He grew up in the Cedar Mills area and attended country school. Following school he worked as a heavy equipment operator in various states. In 1953 he enlisted in the US Marine Corp and served for three years. On June 23, 1956, he was united in marriage to Martha Hoekstra in Sisseton, SD. They made their home on a small acreage near old Curvuso. Charles started Peterson Earth Moving and continued his enjoyment of working hard. They moved to Litchfield in 1968 and moved the business just east of town. He enjoyed tractor pulls and participated with his tractor ""Walking Tall"". Charles was a pilot and loved to fly. He also enjoyed hunting and trap shooting. His size and physical abilities made him an imposing figure but he will be remembered as a resourceful man who treated everyone fairly with a kind heart. He is survived by his wife Martha Peterson of Litchfield; children, LaDon (Cheri) Peterson of Williston, ND, LaVern ""Bud"" (Karen) Peterson of Litchfield, LaVonn (Russ Lewis) Peterson of Twin Falls, ID; grandchildren, Travis, Dean, Charlie, Buddy, Jesse, James, Mandy, Alyssa and Chase and 22 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Dale (Mable) Peterson of Sunburg, Douglas (Brenda) Peterson of Hutchinson, and Harvey (Darla) Peterson of Litchfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Betty Bock and brothers Bob Driver and Kenny Peterson.
