Donald L. Calberg, age 88, of Litchfield died on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the Meeker Manor in Litchfield. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, January 16th at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Interment will be at a later date in the Ripley Cemetery. Donald LeRoy Calberg, the son of Henry and Ellen (Thompson) Calberg, was born on October 19, 1929 in Atwater. He grew up and received his education in Atwater. Donald served in the US Army and then returned to Minnesota. On October 28, 1950, he was united in marriage to Geraldine Mackedanze in Litchfield. He lived in Litchfield and worked as a bulk truck driver for First District. Donald was also a residential milk man for First District, delivering to Litchfield area homes. In 1971, he began selling seed, feed and fertilizer for First District retiring in 1993 after more than 40 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the American Legion and the Eagles Club. Donald was active with the Litchfield Civil Defense for 20 years. He enjoyed the outdoors; fishing, hunting deer and antelope and gardening. He also enjoyed trap shooting and was a member of the Darwin Rod and Gun Club. His shooting was very accurate and he rarely missed his target. He enjoyed playing cards and shaking dice with his family and friends and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters Cheryl Linder (and special friend Greg Ornberg) of Litchfield, Leslie (and Ron) Weber of Winthrop; grandchildren Carrie (and Scott) Smieja, Jeremy Linder, Melissa, Tyson (and Megan) Wimmer and Reed Wimmer; great grandchildren, Samantha, Alec, Mitch, Cody, Madison, Caden, Bren, Christian, Isaac, and Caitlynn. He is also survived by his sister Jackie Waataja of Hutchinson. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Geraldine and granddaughter Christie Linder.
