Donald Henry Rick

Donald H. Rick, age 85 of Litchfield, MN died on Monday October 14, 2024, at the St. Cloud Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday October 28, 2024, at the Cornerstone Church in Litchfield, MN. A visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 PM on Sunday October 27, 2024, at the Cornerstone Church in Litchfield, MN and will continue one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held in Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield, MN. The service will be livestreamed at www.johnsonhagglund.com

Donald ‘Don’ Henry Rick, the son of Herman and Linnea (Lee) Rick was born in Litchfield on March 25, 1939. Don started his education at Country School District 85 and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1957. He joined the Army National Guard in 1957 and served for eight years. He was united in marriage to Shirley Johnson on December 28, 1962, at the Covenant Church in Dassel, MN. Don and Shirley raised their family on the farm where he grew up in Forest City Township. Don was a true dairyman; raising calves, milking Holstein cows, crop farming and later raising Black Angus cattle. He was also the proud owner of RCK Kennels where he bred and raised French Brittany dogs. Don was a member of the First Baptist Church and later Cornerstone Church in Litchfield. Don was active in 4-H, FFA, local and state dairy judging teams, the Peanut Butter and Milk Festival, the Forest City Stockade, and a member of Meeker County Fair board for twenty years. Don enjoyed roller-skating, fishing, country drives, traveling to multiple states, watching boxing, wrestling, RFDTV and the Big Joe Polka Show. He loved chocolate. He never met a brownie he didn’t like. Don cherished the time that was spent with family and friends. He had a steadfast personality and a true compassion and care for all the animals that he raised.

Don is survived by his children Paul (Michele) Rick of Deerfield, WI, Ryan Rick of Litchfield, MN and Ruth Rick of Crystal, MN; grandchildren Aaron (Aleisha) Rick, Elizabeth (Dave) Janus, Emma Rick, Zachary Rick and Olivia Rick; great-grandson Miles Janus; sister Betty (Bob) Hermann and sister-in-law Marlene (Gary) Wilder of Litchfield, MN; nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley; parents Herman and Linnea; and nephew Todd Hermann. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Forest City Stockade or the Meeker County Fair.
