Doug R. Angier

Douglas Reuben Angier, age 91 of Litchfield, MN, passed away on April 17, 20206. Per Doug’s wishes, there will be no formal services, but the family will hold a casual celebration of life at a later date.

Doug was born on February 20, 1935, to Reuben and Anna (Rick) Angier. He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1953, where he held the long jump record of 20 feet, 8 inches for 20 years.

Doug met the love of his life, Judy Mohr, at a diner in Litchfield. They were married on December 21, 1957, and together they raised three children. Doug worked as a plumber for many years before eventually joining the water department of Litchfield Public Utilities. Even years after retirement, he would still receive phone calls asking where to locate difficult-to-find water services.

In 1989, Doug received a second lease on life when, after surviving a serious heart incident, he became the first patient at Abbott Northwestern to receive an implanted defibrillator.

Later in life, Doug took up golf as a hobby and found he was surprisingly good at it. He lamented that he wished he had started sooner. He continued playing until he was 89 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Dianna; his daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Joel; and his grandchildren: Andy and his wife Amanda, Kaitlyn, Mistique and her husband Adam, and Amanda and her husband Marcus.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Anna Angier; his stepfather, Baldy Bitzer; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Gladys Mohr; and his son, Jeff.

Special thanks to the Litchfield Police Department and Officer Brian M., for his kindness and compassion during the welfare check and in handling the aftermath.
