Douglas C. Engelson

Douglas C. Engelson, age 82 of Litchfield, passed away June 15, 2022, at his home in Litchfield. A memorial service will be held Monday, June 20, 2022, at 6:00 PM at Dassel Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 PM prior to the service at the church. Douglas Claire Engelson, the son of Helmer and Jane (Hawkinson) Engelson, was born on March 28, 1940, in Canby, Minnesota. Douglas was baptized in 1940, and confirmed at Knapp Lutheran Church in 1955. Douglas graduated from Litchfield High School in 1958, he continued some education at St. Cloud State University. Douglas began his working career starting in Minneapolis and from there went to Washington state as a Merchant Marine and then ventured to California to start his career in the newspaper profession. When Douglas returned back to MN and married Margaret they started farming, which continued for 13 years. Eventually he found his employment at the Star and Tribune in Minneapolis, where he retired from after 30+ years. Douglas and Margaret (Anderson) were united in marriage at Milbank, South Dakota on September 9, 1971. Together they made home in the Dassel area and after their children were raised and in retirement they resided in Litchfield. Douglas enjoyed baking and cooking, coming up with new recipes and experimenting with current recipes. He also loved to be Santa Claus for the Kingston Lions Club. Gardening and picking his fresh produce gave him such pride. Douglas and Margaret enjoyed spending some time as snowbirds and some destinations included Arkansas and Arizona. The other part of the year their hearts were fulfilled being with family and friends here. Douglas also was a member of the Free Masons and Kingston Lions Club. He contributed to many causes that was near to his heart, including, Feed the Children, Ukraine Fundraising and Tunnels of Towers. Douglas is survived by his wife Margaret of Litchfield and their 4 children, Matthew (Roxanne) of Cosmos, MN, Erik (Judy) of Litchfield MN, Alesia (Jesse) of Cokato MN, and Thomas (Tracy) of Mooresville, NC, 12 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren,1 great-grandchild, and a brother John "Jack" Engelson. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Helmer and Jane Engelson, and aunts and uncles.
