Durand “Randy” Oscar Onell, age 77, passed away peacefully in his home on December 14, 2025.
Randy was born June 26, 1948 in Litchfield, Minnesota to Reuben and Harriet (Schipper) Onell. He was baptized and confirmed at Ostmark Lutheran Church. Randy graduated from Litchfield High School in 1966. After graduation, he traveled throughout the Midwest building towers before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1968. During his service, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan during the Vietnam War. In 1970, he started his own business as a welder and mechanic in St. Paul. After marrying, he purchased his family farm in the late 1970s where he resided until he passed. Along with farming, Randy’s self-employment as a mechanic, welder, and heavy tow truck operator continued until his retirement in 2024. He was very proud of his business, Randy’s Heavy Towing and Recovery, and enjoyed troubleshooting, problem-solving difficult recoveries, and helping people.
In Randy’s younger years, he enjoyed Indian motorcycles and racing snowmobiles. He was always a Dodge man through and through. Once he started a family, his hobbies centered around hunting and fishing. He passed on an appreciation for nature to his children, and he was very proud of his grandchildren. Randy also loved striking up a conversation with just about anyone.
Randy is survived by his daughters Jennifer (Trent) Langemo and Amy Onell (Andrew Twardy). Grandchildren Kaia, Cael, and Kara Langemo and Carly and Beau Twardy. Sisters Judi Roering, Deb Onell, and Sundee Pietsch.
Randy was preceded in death by his son Durand M. Onell, his parents Harriet Onell and Reuben Onell, and his brothers Gary Onell and Stephen Onell.
