Earl K. Munson

Earl K. Munson, age 101, of rural Watkins died on Sunday, September 4, 2016 at Hilltop Health Care Center, Watkins, MN. A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Ostmark Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. The Rev. Joe Midthun will officiate, and Cindy Knutson will serve as the organist. Congregational hymns to be sung are ""Nearer My God To Me"", ""The Old Rugged Cross"" and "" How Great Thou Art."" Pallbearers are Donald Arens, David Munson, Bradley Munson, Jeremy Munson, Corey Meirhofer and Douglas Kersten. Interment will be held in Ostmark Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice. Earl Kenneth Munson was born in Watkins, MN on August 10, 1915 to John and Lillian (Platt) Munson. He grew up and attended country school in Meeker County. Earl and Gladys were married on November 19, 1960. While living in Minneapolis Earl worked for K.P. Industries until his retirement. They lived in an apartment in Minneapolis their first years of marriage and spent weekends at their country home near Watkins. After retirement, they spent many hours gardening at their country home. He was a member of Ostmark Lutheran Church. Earl was a patient and kind man who enjoyed growing corn and soybeans; gardening, fishing, mowing lawn and spending time outdoors. Earl and Gladys will be remembered for the strawberries, rhubarb, and apples they shared with others. Gladys's favorite way to share her strawberries with visitors was with ice cream, a favorite food. Earl and Gladys enjoyed traveling and took at least twenty extended stay trips, including Sweden, Switzerland, England, Canada, Hawaii, and many other states. They visited Hostfest in Minot, North Dakota, sixteen times. He is survived by his nieces Delores Munson and Pat Munson; and many great nieces and nephews; and great great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Lillian; wife Gladys; brothers Sydney and Leslie; sister Irene and nephews John and Roger.
