Eleanor Inga Berg

Eleanor Berg, age 96, of Litchfield, died on January 15, 2017, at Meeker Memorial Hospital. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at First Lutheran Church at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held in Lake Ripley Cemetery. Eleanor Inga (Ornberg) Berg was born February 24, 1920 near Sunburg, Minnesota to Peter and Clara (Stai) Ornberg. She was baptized on May 2, 1920, at the East Norway Lake Lutheran Church near Sunburg and confirmed on November 24, 1935. She grew up with three brothers and a sister; Lloyd, Clinton, Arnold and Adeline. She spent most of her growing up years on the farm and went to country school in Willmar and Litchfield through the eighth grade. She loved animals and rode horses a lot as a child. She always had cats and dogs at her house. On the farm she helped with most of the outside work and her sister Adeline helped with the inside house work. Eleanor married Donald Melvin Berg on July 28, 1942. They had three children; Donald, Carol and Gerald. She was a hard working person, working all of her adult life. She worked at the Litchfield Woolen Mills, the old hotel in Litchfield and at Rice Hospital in Willmar. She had many struggles and tragic losses. She lost her first child at the age of 6 when he was hit by a vehicle and another son that died at his home in Minneapolis. Through everything in her life she never complained and was one of the gentlest and kindest people you would ever want to meet. She was always willing to help you out when you needed it and always seemed so happy. Eleanor enjoyed music, traveling and did crafts for many years. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, relative and friend. Eleanor is survived by her daughter Carol (Kenneth) Shoutz of Litchfield; grandchildren Tracy Shoutz and significant other Debra of St. Cloud, Christine (Marc) Walters of Litchfield, five great grandchildren, three honorary great grandchildren and one great great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald M. Berg, sons Donald E. Berg and Gerald Berg, brothers Lloyd, Clinton and Arnold Ornberg and sister Adeline Lonn.
