Fern P. Groskreutz

Fern P. Groskreutz, age 91, of Litchfield, MN, died on Friday, August 19, 2016 at the Meeker Manor in Litchfield, MN. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday August 23, 2016 at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Monday, August 22 at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral home and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Fern Pauline Groskreutz, the daughter of Arthur and Bertha (Thiede) Yerks, was born on August 14, 1925 in Stearns County. She attended grade school in Kimball and graduated from Kimball High School in 1943. On June 17, 1950, she was united in marriage to John ""Jack"" Groskreutz at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Kimball. Fern worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 31 years as an operator at the switchboard and later worked in the office as a clerk and manager. Fern was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Together Fern and Jack spent many summers in Brainerd, traveled south during the winter and went to 48 states in the US and much of Canada. In 2004, she was able to take a bus trip to the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. with Jack and many other Meeker County Veterans. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting, traveling and watching the MN Twins. She is survived by her son Gary Groskreutz of Litchfield, MN; brother Leslie (Judi) Yerks of Brainerd, MN; sisters-in-law Janet Yerks of Hutchinson, MN and Margaret Groskreutz of Buffalo, MN; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
