Gene Phillip Nonweiler, age 88 of Litchfield, MN passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Bethany Assisted Living in Litchfield, MN. A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, May 1, 2026, at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard.
Gene was born on March 4, 1938, in Litchfield, Minnesota to George and Ella (Stenberg) Nonweiler. He received his education in Litchfield. Gene was united in marriage to Ann Hawkinson on September 17, 1960, at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield, MN. Right out of high school, Gene began working at Holm Brothers hardware store in Grove City, where he began building a strong foundation in the accounting world. He later worked for Conventional Built Homes and Custom Products for 25 years and Palm Industries.
Gene proudly served his country in the Army National Guard for 22 years and in the Army Reserve for an additional 8 years. Early in his life Gene had a knack for drawing cartoons. He enjoyed traveling with Ann, family, and friends, and spending time at the family lake cabin. Gene was an athlete in his own right and loved attending his children’s and grandkids sporting events and was a lifelong Dragon supporter. He was known to the grandkids as Papa. He served as a scout leader, was active on the hockey board and the historical society for many years. He was a member of Legion Post 104, the Knights of Columbus and the Eagles.
Gene is survived by his children: Greg (Jill) Nonweiler of Lakeville, MN, Tom (Kelly Eull) Nonweiler of Minnetonka, MN, and Jim Nonweiler of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren: Seth (Marni), Cole, Ella and Holden; great-grandson Braydon and great-granddaughter Freya; He was preceded in death by his parents George and Ella; his brothers Dwayne and Keith; and his beloved wife Ann.
Gene will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His kindness, service and devotion to family will be remembered always.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that Memorials be made to the Knights of Columbus of St. Phillips.
