George A. Junkermeier

George A. Junkermeier, age 93 of Litchfield, MN passed away on Monday September 21, 2026 at the Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield, MN. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday September 25, 2026 at the Litchfield United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be held in the East Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Belgrade, MN.

George Auben Junkermeier was born on February 22, 1933 in Kandiyohi County, Minnesota to Alvin and Evelyn (Olson) Junkermeier. He graduated from Atwater High School in 1951. George was united in marriage to Geraldine Melgaard and they raised five children together. On February 25, 1972 he married Ruthie Junkermeier and their family grew to nine children. He was a member of the Litchfield United Methodist Church. George helped produce milk, butter and cheese while managing creameries throughout the area, including First District in Litchfield. He liked his work and was known to take giant steps to work and baby steps home. While growing up in Atwater, he was a talented athlete and he continued to enjoy sports throughout his life. He also enjoyed taking scenic bus and Amtrak trips.

George is survived by his wife Ruthie; children Patricia (Jim) Bowiers, Brad Junkermeier, Jackie Kikalas, Brian Junkermeier and Kathleen (Larry) Bruess, Lynn (Tom) Schumacher, Allan (Becky) Hofstad, Jon (Charity) Junkermeier; a brother Larry (Lynne) Junkermeier; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Evelyn; daughter Tamara; and brothers Allan and James.
