Glenn "Chuck" Charles Johnson

Glenn (Chuck) Johnson, 75, of rural Litchfield passed away March 14 at Lakeside Generations in Dassel, where he resided since late February. A celebration of life service will be held at Cornerstone Church in Litchfield Thursday, March 21st at 4:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 2-4 pm prior to the service.

Chuck was born January 3, 1949 in Litchfield to Glenn D and Betty L. (Olmstead) Johnson of Dassel. He graduated from Dassel High School in 1967. He went on to receive his BA at Southwest State University in Marshall. Following graduation he taught chemistry and physics at Swanville High School for 7 years.

In 1978 Chuck married Laurie Johnson and in 1979 they moved to their small farm in rural Litchfield. Chuck began raising hogs until the mid-90s. To supplement the farm income, Chuck began teaching math at Dassel-Cokato Middle School. In 1984 he returned to his love of science by taking a teaching position in Litchfield. There he taught 8th and 9th grade science and later added classroom and Behind-the-Wheel Driver's Education, retiring in 2011.

Chuck and Laurie acquired their first 5 alpacas in the fall of 2011 and continued until Chuck's deteriorating health forced them to sell the alpacas in 2022. Chuck enjoyed traveling to alpaca shows and visiting many alpaca farms. He was always gaining more knowledge about these unique and fun animals which he passed on to the many visitors to the farm.  

Chuck was a longtime member of Cornerstone Church in Litchfield. Through the years he served on various committees. He was a Stockade leader for the boys' programming and more recently was a member of the Celebrate Recovery prayer team. He also participated in many Bible studies.

Besides his involvement at Cornerstone, Chuck was an active member of the Litchfield Gideon camp. He enjoyed speaking at area churches, giving out New Testaments to students in the area as well at St. Cloud State University and the Meeker County Fair. He also recruited Gideons to assist him in placing Bibles in area motels. Chuck faithfully attended the weekly Gideon prayer breakfasts.

He is survived by his wife Laurie, children Lindsey (Jacob) Huang of Litchfield and Trevor (Riley) Johnson of Dassel. Grandchildren Daniel, Lillian, and Hattie Johnson, Denton and Emily Huang. Also surviving is one sister Diane (Dennis) Johnson of Litchfield. Two brothers, Galen (Karen) Johnson of Fairbanks, Alaska and Gary (Diane) Johnson of Red Lake Falls, MN. One aunt, Shirley Ostlund of Dassel and one uncle, Bob Shirley of Wheat Ridge CO. His mother-in-law Betty Johnson of Litchfield, sister-in-law Wendy Rosenberg of Twin Falls, ID, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Chuck is preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Betty Johnson, father-in-law Daniel Johnson and brother-in-law Paul Rosenberg.
