Joan Wimmer

Joan Wimmer, age 78, of Forest City died on Monday, June 12, 2017, at the Meeker Manor Rehabilitation Center in Litchfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 16, 2017 at the Church of St. Gertrude in Forest City. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at a later date in the St. Gertrude's Catholic Cemetery. Joan Wimmer, the daughter of Rudolph and Esther (McCormick) Rosenow, was born on December 29, 1938 in Forest City Township, Minnesota. She grew up in the Forest City area and attended country school. She graduated from Litchfield High School in 1956. On October 12, 1957, she was united in marriage to John T. Wimmer at the St. Gertrude Catholic Church. They moved to the Twin Cities where she worked as a teller in a bank. They moved back to Forest City in 1967. They farmed, raised livestock and started the Wimmer Spraying Service; white washing farm buildings. They retired in 2005. She was a member of St. Gertrude's Catholic Church in Forest City. Joan enjoyed bowling, gardening and was an avid Twins fan. She taught herself how to play the accordion and loved polka music. Joan loved spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her husband John T. Wimmer of Forest City, children Jane (Conrad) Ficker of Forest City, John Wimmer, Jr. of Forest City, RoseAnn (Jim) Wendroth of Eden Valley, and Kenny (Beckie) Wimmer of Forest City; grandchildren, Chad Ficker, Heather Movrich, Lisa Ficker, Becci Ficker, Sara Wendroth, James Wendroth, Travis Wendroth, Nick Winings, Emma Nistler and Katie Swenson; 12 great grandchildren; sisters, Francis (Will) Trautmann of Thousand Oaks, CA and Rita Johnson of Brooklyn Park.
