John Michael Heidgerken

John M. Heidgerken, 61 of Litchfield, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016 at his home residence after living with Alzheimer's Disease. A Celebration Of life will be held on Wednesday , March 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Johnson Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield. Rev. Gerard Hall will officiate. Inurnment will be at Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield. Military honors will be provided by Litchfield Military Honor Guard. A second Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, March 19th at First Presbyterian Church in LeClaire, Iowa with visitation from 2:30 until time of service at church. John M. Heidgerken was born on February 4, 1955 in Davenport, IA. He was the son of Gerard and Donna Mae (Carlson) Heidgerken. He graduated from the Pleasant Valley High School in Bettendorf, IA. John served in the U.S Navy, Seabees, during the Vietnam Conflict, retiring after over 20 years from the Naval Reserve as a Petty Officer First Class. John was united in marriage to Marcia Hall on December 29, 1978 in LeClaire, Ia. They resided in Iowa, California and Illinois prior to moving to Litchfield in 1998. John worked as an Electroplater for 16 years at the Rock Island Arsenal in Illinois . While residing in Litchfield, John worked as a Job Scheduler for 3-D CNC, Inc. in Hutchinson for 16 years. He was a member of the Cornerstone Church in Litchfield. John enjoyed music, drag racing, scuba diving, waterskiing, boating and photography. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. John was involved with community as a Cub Scout leader, volunteer firefighter and rescue diver. He also coached Cal Ripken baseball, basketball and football. John is survived by his wife, Marcia Heidgerken of Litchfield; son, William (Melissa) Heidgerken of St. Cloud; mother, Donna Mae Lang of Davenport, IA; brothers and sisters, Michelle (Lee) Genz of Bettendorf, IA, Jerry (Kim) Heidgerken of Lakeland, FL, Renne Carlson of Portland, OR, Tom (Becky) Heidgerken of Davenport, IA, Sharon Heidgerken of FL, Karen (Layazid) Elherz of Bettendorf, IA, Rick (Ruthie) Heidgerken of St. Mary, GA, Lee (Pat) Heidgerken of Commerce, GA, Gary Heidgerken of Tempe, AZ, Marty (Deb) Johnson of Midora, IL; special friend, Sandy Oltz of Sartell; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerard Heidgerken and son, Zach in 1991. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dawn Doty and the staff at Ecumen Adult Daycare, Ecumen Hospice and to Vicki Doyle, John's caregiver, for the excellent care John received.
