Judith A. Thielen, age 83, of Litchfield died on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the Meeker Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Cornerstone Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Ripley Cemetery. Judith Ann Thielen, the daughter of Robert and Grace (Irving) Hunter, was born on December 10, 1934 in St. Paul, Minnesota. She grew up in North St. Paul and graduated from North St. Paul High School in 1952. She was married to Elder Maus in 1953. She worked various jobs including data input and working at a bank. Elder passed away in 1966. In 1969 she married Donald Thielen. She worked different jobs including home health aid, cleaning at a hotel and provided in home daycare. In 1986 they moved to Eden Valley. She worked as a care provider at the “Red Castle” in Litchfield for over 20 years. It was there that she gained the name “Momma T”. Donald passed away in 1994 and in June of 1995 she moved to Litchfield. Judith was an advocate for pets. She donated to the World Wildlife Foundation and enjoyed her cats, Moses and Eloise. She was a very talented artist and created wonderful drawings and needlework. She enjoyed gardening and was a fabulous cook and baker. She ground her own wheat with a mill she owned to make her bread. Judith loved listening to talk radio. She will be remembered as a feisty independent woman who loved her family dearly. She is survived by her children Robert Maus of Litchfield, Joy Boggs of Dairyland, WI, Susan (and Tom) Boggs of Minneapolis, Jill (and Curtis) Nelson of Litchfield, Andrew Thielen of Litchfield; step-children, Judy (and Jim) Evitch of Baron, WI, Ron Thielen (and Barb Lehar) of Winthrop, Jane (and Mike) Quam of Cambridge and June Haugen of Hastings; grandchildren Amy Pitmon, Maggy Rush, Kim Maus, Melody Maus, Brittany Hull, Molly Maus, Karly Madsen, Blake Thielen, Summer Thielen and several great grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Pat Sim of North St. Paul, Sue (and Eddie) Springborn of North St. Paul, and Beth Hunter of Baron, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, son Michael Maus; grandson Jesse Boggs, sisters Carol and Joan; step-son Jimmy Thielen and step-daughter Sandy Sobaskie.
