Kenneth Eggert

February 20, 1932 — August 12, 2023

Litchfield

Kenneth (Ken) Eggert, age 91, was welcomed into God’s eternal glory on August 12, 2023. Ken was born in Canova, South Dakota on February 20, 1932 to Louis and Emma Eggert.  After graduating from Howard High School in 1950, he earned his bachelor’s degree in education from General Beadle College in Madison, South Dakota.   He then entered the service for two years with the Army and was stationed at Fort Sam Houston, where he was a dental lab technician. After discharge, he went on to earn his master’s degree in counseling from South Dakota State University.

On August 28, 1958, he married June Eggert and in January 1967 and June of 1975 they welcomed their two children John and Kristen.  His kids and grandchildren were his pride and joy.  It would be a rare interaction if he did not give you an update as to what his family was doing.  Ken shared the love of fishing and hunting with both of his children.  He did not mind if the fish weren’t biting, or the hunting trip did not produce. He just simply loved sitting and taking in God’s creation.  He loved all animals and found joy in feeding the birds, squirrels and even the raccoons.  He had many beloved dogs over the years and could always be found with one of them on his lap.

Ken was a man of faith and enjoyed attending bible study and served his church as an elder for many years.  In later years he found comfort and peace reading his bible daily and was ready to rejoice in God’s Kingdom whenever that time came.

Ken was preceded in death by his wife June and brother Vernon. He is survived by his son John (Jodi); daughter Kristen (Scott) Merwin; grandchildren Matthew and Julie Eggert and grand dogs Oreo, Remi and Meyers (John) and Jigs (Kristen).

The funeral service will be at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield, MN on August 16, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. The visitation will be one hour prior and a luncheon will immediately follow the service.  In lieu of flowers please send memorials to the MN-FISH Foundation or Hawk Creek Animal Shelter in Willmar, MN.
