Lawrence (Larry) Mathew Weinzetl

October 4, 1930- June 29, 2026

Larry passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, July 18,2026 at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow.

Larry was born the second son of Matthew and Viola (Versluis) Weinzetl. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith, loved serving as an altar boy in his youth, and was a devout Christian his entire life. He grew up helping his family work on their farm in Lake Lillian, MN. Out of necessity, and with help from his father, Larry developed incredible mechanical skills, which he put to use throughout his life as a devoted husband and father.

Larry was honored to serve his country in the United States Army and Air Force, serving primarily in France and Germany. At the tender age of 19, he supervised eight German soldiers and a fleet of semi-trucks. Those formative years - spent abroad - helped him find his independence, and the confidence to pursue something more out of life. He was very proud of his service, spoke of it often, and was active in the VFW and the American Legion in later years.

In 1958 Larry and Shirley Kirchoff were united in marriage at the St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church in Lake Lillian, MN. They moved to New Hope, MN and raised their five children. Larry was a devoted father and spent many seasons coaching sports for his children. He was very proud of his loving wife, Shirley, and enjoyed listening to her singing at many various churches and services. They retired in 1992 and moved to a home on Lake Minnie Belle, in Litchfield, MN where he spent many hours fishing on his boat, sharing many of those hours with family.

Education was very important to Larry. He received his GED in Willmar, MN and attended Minneapolis Business College and the University of Minnesota. His career took varied paths, but he thrived and was passionate about being a barber. He loved meeting people and getting to know them, and he continued to barber well into his 90’s.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley, children Cynthia (Richard) Hermes, Kristi Weinzetl, Michele (Rhonda) Weinzetl, Tony (Jodi) Weinzetl, and Laura (Vince) Martin. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Scott Weinzetl. and grandson Jonah Stichter. Larry was a proud grandfather to 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He will be missed by his family and his many friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be given to the St. Philip’s building fund.
