Mae Brehmer

February 27, 1930 — October 13, 2024

Mae Lucille (Morgan) Brehmer, age 94 of Litchfield, MN, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Ecumen of Litchfield. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the church service. Interment will be private and held at Lake Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield.

The daughter of George V. and Mary (Anderson) Morgan, Mae was born on February 27, 1930 in St. James, MN. She was baptized on April 20, 1930 at Kansas Lake Lutheran Church in rural Butterfield, MN, and was confirmed on September 30, 1943 at Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James. Mae attended grades 1 - 3 in country school, rural St. James, and grades 4 - 12 in St. James, graduating from high school in 1947. She attended the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis and graduated in 1948 after completing the private secretarial course. Mae married Warren R. (“Bud”) Brehmer on September 25, 1949 at Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James. Mae and Bud became the parents of four sons. The family lived in St. James, Odin, and Truman before returning to Bud’s hometown of Litchfield in 1959. Mae worked as a grocery store clerk during her teenage years. After business college, she worked at the Plaindealer Publishing Co. in St. James for four years. She resigned from that position to start a family, then re-entered the workforce part-time in 1960 as the pastor’s secretary at First Lutheran Church in Litchfield for three years. In 1969 she started office work at Meeker County Hospital for two years, and in 1971 she began work in the County Treasurer’s Office, retiring from that job in 1992. Mae was a member of First Lutheran Church in Litchfield since 1959 and was active over the years in Church Circle, WELCA, choir, MST committee, Church Council committees, Sunday School, and served as co-coordinator of a Slide Night program at Augustana Homes. She was also a Cub Scout Den Mother. Mae’s spare time activities included walking, biking, fishing, reading, crossword puzzles, bird watching/feeding, and motorcycling with her husband and sons. Mae and Bud were overjoyed when they finally became grandparents the year they both retired! Having their five grandchildren visit was a highlight of their lives and they both took such pride in their grandchildren’s accomplishments over the years.

Mae is survived by her four sons: David Brehmer (Lisa), of Shakopee, MN; Darryl (Patty) Brehmer of Otsego, MN; Danny Brehmer of Bemidji, MN; and Douglas (Karen) Brehmer of Rosemount, MN; four grandsons: Collin, Christian, Michael, and Adam, and one granddaughter, Caitlin. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Mae was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, her parents, five brothers, two half-brothers, and many other loved ones.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Ecumen of Litchfield for the excellent care given to Mae during her time there.
