Mahala Ann Kemp

Mahala Ann Kemp, age 96, of Litchfield, MN, formerly of California; died on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield, MN, surrounded by family. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Johnson Hagglund Funeral Home. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Hector Cemetery in Hector, MN.

Mahala was born on August 8, 1929, to Percy and Edna (Monson) Kemp in Hector, MN. She received her education in Grove City, MN and graduated in 1947. Mahala was baptized at First Lutheran Church in Grove City, MN in 1934, where she was later confirmed in 1945. She worked at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN. During her time at Mount Olivet Church, she spent her summers working at Cathedral of the Pines camp in northern MN. These treasured memories were carried with her for her entire life. Mahala then moved to Torrance, CA where she worked for Magnavox Kaiser Corp as an executive secretary.

Throughout her life, Mahala lived in many different places including Grove City, MN, Minneapolis, MN, Redondo Beach, CA, Torrance CA, Villa Park, CA, and finally, Litchfield, MN.

Mahala loved entertaining with her elegance and flair! Her parties were always filled with beautiful decorations and gourmet cooking. She also loved her sparkling nails and Chico’s Catalog.

Mahala is survived by her sister-in-law Marlene Kemp; her nieces and nephews Jim (Carol) Atkinson, Joey Spreiter and family, Jonell Atkinson (Tony Wagner) and son Jace Wagner, Bruce (Thanh) Kemp and family, Linda Treb, friend Jim and family, Bob Kemp and friend Lisa, Lisa (Steve) Earp and family, loving friend and caregiver Sharon (Bruce) Dicke and family; along with many grand-nieces and nephews and treasured lifetime friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Percy and Edna; sisters Audrey and Addie; and brother Bill.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Meeker County Food Shelf.
