Marvin A. Tews, age 95, of Litchfield died on Monday, August 21, 2017 at the Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 25, 2017 at the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 24 at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the funeral at church. Interment will be in the Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield. Marvin Albert Tews was born on October 10, 1921 to Alfred and Lydia (Prieve) Tews in Acoma Township, Hutchinson Minnesota, the oldest of six children. He was baptized, confirmed, and attended school at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Acoma Township, Hutchinson, Minnesota. In his younger years, he farmed with his parents in Acoma Township. During this time, he also hauled milk and did custom work for area farmers. On June 21, 1952 Marvin was married to Cora Hellwig at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Litchfield. They moved to rural Litchfield in the spring of 1953. Marvin and Cora enjoyed 51 years of marriage, until Cora's death in 2003. Marvin continued to live on their farm until his death. In addition to his life as a dairy farmer, he held a variety of jobs to help support his family. He loved the farm life, and enjoyed anything to do with farming. He was an avid reader, and attended many car shows, tractor shows, and many other activities with his children and grandchildren. Marvin and Cora were blessed with six children: Dave and (Jeanne) Tews of Jamestown ND; Robert and (Nancy) Tews of Morgan; Allen Tews of Jamestown ND; John Tews of Litchfield; Jim and (Sheila) Tews of Litchfield; and Anita Tews of Litchfield. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Matthew (Jessica) Tews , Nicholas (Jesse Bauernhuber) Tews, Joseph (Kari) Tews, Jenna Tews, Jacob Tews, and Corrie Tews; Abigail (Ryan) Koropatnicki; and Sara (Paul) Vold . Also surviving are two great granddaughters Adylan and Evylan; his sisters Evelyn and Elaine; and sister-in-law Beatrice. He was preceded in death by his wife Cora, parents Alfred and Lydia, daughter-in-law Jackie Tews, brothers Eldor, Harold, and Arnold, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Carl Hellwig, Art and Edith Hellwig, and Ellsworth Thies and nephew Joel Tews.
