Richard R. Scullard

January 1, 1939 — March 2, 2020

Richard R. ‘Corky’ Scullard, 80, formerly of Litchfield, passed away March 2 at the Trinity Care Center in Farmington, Minnesota with his children by his side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday March 9, 2020 at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield, MN. Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 5:00 PM on Sunday at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral and Cremation in Litchfield, MN with a 5:00 PM prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Monday. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Richard Reginald Scullard, son of Louis and Josephine (Murphy) Scullard, was born June 3, 1939 at General Hospital (HCMC) in Minneapolis. He grew up in north Minneapolis and spent summers in Ely, learning to fish with his grandpa. DeLaSalle High School recruited him to play football, run track, and swim. He graduated in 1958. While in high school, he was a member of the Coast Guard but had to shift to the Army to fulfill his military service. He trained at Fort Leonard Wood and was stationed for two years in Germany, where he enjoyed sampling the beer. Richard met Dorothy Fallon while teaching swimming lessons and immediately knew he had found his ‘one and only’. They married on February 8, 1964 at St. Bridget’s Church in Minneapolis, MN. The family grew as they moved around Minnesota, living in north Minneapolis, Watertown, Darwin, and Brainerd before settling in rural Litchfield. They were blessed with seven children. Richard worked at 3M, was a welder, and focused on quality assurance in several manufacturing positions. He was a member of St. Philip’s Catholic Church and a Knight of Columbus. Richard enjoyed grafting and growing many varieties of apples and eagerly waited to taste test them every fall. This may be related to his extreme fondness for apple pies. He also vigorously fought Creeping Charlie, usually losing the battle. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing – summer and winter. Richard liked ‘As Seen on TV’ products, gifting his children with the Perfect Pancake Maker and many other unique items. He loved spoiling his grandchildren with candy and Disney movies. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his son Daniel, his parents, his brother, Louis ‘Connie’ Scullard, his sisters-in-law Janet Scullard and Audrey Brown, and brother-in-law, Joe Renner. He is survived by six children, Michelle ‘Mickey’ Scullard, Tom (Lynelle) Scullard, Tim (Mary Lou) Scullard, Kristi Whitcomb, Peggy (Brian Griffin) Scullard, Colleen (Mike) Bender, 17 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law Louis Fallon and Dick Brown, and sisters-in-law, Jeanette Fallon and Lois Renner.
