Viggo Wehking Christensen

Viggo “Junior” Christensen, age 75, of Litchfield passed away Sunday April 29th at Meeker Memorial Hospital with his only surviving brother, Thomas, at his side. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 Pm on Friday, May 4th at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield. Viggo Wehking Christensen, known to many during his lifetime as J.R. or Junior was born to Viggo and Minnie (Wehking) Christensen on July 31, 1942 in Litchfield, MN. He was baptized and confirmed and a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Litchfield. He was the 9th of 10 children. Viggo grew up south of Litchfield and attended District 94 from 1st through 8th grade and graduated in 1960 from Litchfield High school. He then enlisted in the National Guard. His father passed away when he was 6 years old. He and his siblings helped their mother carry on with the family farm. He later purchased the farm from his mother and continued to enjoy farming until his retirement. Although he never married, he took great pride in his 31 nieces and nephews and their spouses as well as his 52 great nieces and nephews and spouses. “Uncle Junior" held a special place in each of their hearts. And each of them has many fond memories and stories to tell of special thing they did with him. He always told each of his nieces that "You know you are my favorite." He always had candy and other treats for them when they visited. He kept up with the various sports and other activities that many of them were involved with. He enjoyed coffee time with friends at local restaurants, ballgames and football and watching old cowboy movies. Summer times brought him to the Christensen park to watch family enjoying the lake. He is survived by his brother Thomas (Carolyn) Christensen of Litchfield and 31 nieces and nephews and 52 great nieces and nephews and five sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters- Ruth Anderson, Doris Allen. Mary Pauls and Vickie Mealy and four brothers-Robert, Darold. Gerald, and James as well as several nieces and nephews and some cousins. Memorials are preferred to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
