Charles W. Schoen, age 75 of Watkins, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Hilltop Health Care Center in Watkins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Church of St. Anthony in Watkins. A visitation will be held on Monday, November 29, 2021, at Church of St. Anthony in Watkins from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with Parish Prayers at 4:00 PM as well as one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at Church of St. Anthony Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by Watkins Legion Post 453. The service will be livestreamed at www.ertl.com.

Charles “Charlie” Wendelin Schoen was born on September 6, 1946, in St. Cloud, MN to Wilbert (Hib) and Mildred (Borman) Schoen. He attended Kimball High School until his junior year when he joined the United States Army on February 29, 1964. Charlie served his country and was honorably discharged in 1966. Upon his discharge, he was employed by Control Data until he found his true profession as an electrician, following in his big brother Jack’s footsteps.

On July 10, 1968, Charlie was united in marriage to Rita (Wurm) in Minneapolis, MN. With this union they were blessed with four children who joined two others from a previous marriage. They resided in Minneapolis, St. Michael, and Watkins. Charlie and Rita co-owned TC’s Bar in Watkins from 1991 to 1993 and co-owned Bud’s Bar in Watkins from 2002-2008 when at that time Charlie retired.

Charlie was a former member of St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael and a current member of  St. Anthony Catholic Church. He loved the holidays and spending time with family and friends at the cabin. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards, and taking trips to the casino. Charlie had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh with others. He was a hard worker and always kept busy. He was a family man and was especially fond of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Charlie is survived by his children: Lisa (Mike) Donnay of Watkins, MN, Bret (Keri) Schoen of Monticello, MN, Jason (Missy) Schoen of St. Michael, MN, Tim Schoen of Clearwater, MN, and Vickie (Gary) Lamon of Clearwater, MN; grandchildren: Matt (Jessi) Schoen, Mackenzy (John) Binsfeld, Spencer Schoen, Travis Donnay, Tara (Nathan) Pauls, Tiffany Donnay, Tasha Donnay, Breanna (Tyler) Mros, Ben Schoen, Bret Schoen Jr, Bryce Schoen, Justus Lind, Charlie Schoen, Kayla Schoen, Danielle Schoen, Clifford Snabb, and Hannah Snabb; great-grandchildren: Baili, Payton, Parker, and Remi Schoen, Tucker Binsfeld, Brody, Blair and Brynlee Pauls, Treyce Donnay, Kyzer Donnay, and Ella Schoen; and siblings: Willie (Mickey) Schoen of Monticello, MN, Evelyn (John) Gagnon of Maple Lake, MN, and Peg (Chuck) Shaw of Watkins, MN; and sister-in-law Milly Schoen of St. Michael, MN.

He was preceded in death by his wife Rita, son Kevin, parents Wilbert (Hib) Schoen and Mildred (Schoen) Schreiner; step-father Eugene (Gene) Schreiner; brothers Jack Schoen and Michael Schoen; sister Betty Gorton; and brothers-in-law Pat Crowe and Craig Gorton.
