Erwin F. Huckenpoehler, age 85 of Watkins, passed away on Sunday, May 23 at Hilltop Health Care Center in Watkins. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins and also one hour prior to the Mass on Wednesday. There will be a prayer service starting at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26 at St. Anthony Catholic Church with the Rev. Anthony Hesse (Erwin’s nephew) presiding. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Erwin Frank Huckenpoehler was born on December 25, 1935 in Watkins to Christ and Hildegard (Huberty) Huckenpoehler. He was united in marriage to Darlene Hesse on May 19, 1962 in Watkins at St. Anthony Catholic Church. In his early years, Erwin was gainfully employed as a canned milk truck driver by Jigs Kielty from Forest City. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1958 where he served for two years. After being discharged he returned to Watkins to take over the family farm. He was a devoted family man and a loving husband for 59 years to his beloved wife Darlene. In retirement, he and Darlene would volunteer to call bingo at the Hilltop Health Care Center. When he was a resident there, he enjoyed playing bingo and receiving visits from family and friends. He always had a twinkle in his eyes and a joyful heart.
Erwin is survived by his wife Darlene of Watkins. Son’s John (Sue) of Watkins; Jim of Garner, IA and daughter Mary (Todd) Held of St. Cloud. 3 grandchildren, Jordan, Brenna and Evan. 1 great-grandchild, Ashton. Sisters Imelda Jensen and Rosie Chastek. Brother Earl Huckenpoehler.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Vernon.
