John P. “Jack” Schlangen, 74 of Watkins, passed away at the St. Cloud Hospital on Tuesday, April 28, 2020. A memorial mass of Christian burial will take place at a later date. Arrangements are with the Ertl Funeral Home, Watkins.
Jack Schlangen was born on February 3, 1946 at Richmond, Minnesota. He was the son of John and Regina (Flint) Schlangen. Jack grew up on a farm in the Grand Lake area and graduated from St. Cloud Tech ion 1964. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. On August 22, 1970, Jack was united in marriage to Norene Roeser at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins. They resided at Watkins where Jack was employed as a body man at Theis Bros Chevrolet. He then worked as a Blade Operator for Meeker County Highway Department for many years. Jack also spent many hours in his basement upholstery repair shop.
Jack was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and served as an usher for many years. He was also a member Watkins American Legion Post #453 and the Wat-Kim-Valley VFW Post 5460. Jack was a retired member of the Watkins Fire Department and served many years as a Boy Scout Leader. His hobbies included camping, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed socializing and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Jack is survived by his wife, Norene of Watkins; children, Jeff (Paula) Schlangen of Watkins, Amy (Patrick) Raiber of Litchfield, Michelle (Josh) Cook of Kimball; grandchildren, Casey, Cody, Alyssa, Autumn, Ella and Ivan; sisters, Kathleen Fischer of Cold Spring, Geraldine (Gerald) Gohmann of St. Joseph, Dorothy (Ralph) Hansen of Cold Spring, Cordy (Fritz) Hansen of Cold Spring; sisters-in-law, Mary Schlangen of St. Joseph, Kathleen Rothstein of Cold Spring. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 infant sons; brothers ands sisters, Leroy Schlangen, Clifford Schlangen, Reynold Schlangen, Leonard Schlangen, Delores Molitor and Lorraine Schlangen.
