Lucille I. Asfeld, age 91, of Watkins, MN, died on Tuesday February 25, 2020 at the Hilltop Health Care Center in Watkins, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday March 2, 2020 at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins. Fr. Aaron Nett will officiate. Interment will be in the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the St. Anthony Parish Center in Watkins. Visitation will continue from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Parish Center. Arrangements are with the Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins.
Lucille Irma Asfeld, the daughter of Steve and Susan (Thielen) Nistler was born the 13th child of 14 children in Eden Valley, MN on January 19, 1929. She grew up in Eden Valley and became a caregiver for her family at a young age. She was united in marriage to Fred Asfeld on November 4, 1947 in Watkins, MN. Together they raised 8 children and ran a dairy farm. Lucille also worked for the Meeker County Public Health for 10 1/2 years as a home health care aide. In 1999, she was awarded the "Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year" award from Meeker County at the Meeker County Fair. She was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins where she was active in the CCW. She was Maintenance Chairman for the St. Anthony Parish; an officer of the Christian Mothers, a Rosary Leader for the Church of St. Anthony and St. Anthony Manor, a board member of the St. Anthony Manor; a member of the Watkins Senior Citizens, the Watkins Lioness Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Lucille was musical, faith driven and a wonderful hostess. She had a fun sense of humor and was a hardworking caregiver. She loved to cook and bake and enjoyed embroidering, playing cards and taking trips to the casino.
She is survived by her children Judy Asfeld, Carole Mitchell, Barb (Ken) Nistler, Kathy (Terry) Pauls, Kevin Asfeld, Ken (Tami) Asfeld, Tom (LaRae) Asfeld and Terry (Sandy) Asfeld; 20 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law Barbara Nistler.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fred; parents Steve and Susan; brothers and sisters Edward Nistler, Norbert Nistler, Caroline Asfeld, Gilbert Nistler, Lorraine Schieber, Marcelle Prows, Elmer Nistler, Leander Nistler, Lawrence Nistler, Donald Nistler, Harold (Steve) Nistler, Bob Nistler and David Nistler.
